"I tried to play dumb, but that wasn't working. Hey, I said, don't look at me. We're talking about them. Them. If it was up to me, I wouldn't change a thing. You're fine with me the way you are. But we're not alone, are we? We live in a world of them, like it or not.
That's where I tried to keep it, on them. I didn't mention myself. I didn't say do it for me. I didn't say that if you don't change you can forget about me. I never said that."
Choose ONE of the following questions to answer for your comment this week:
1. Do you think it's right that Leo pins his comments about Stargirl on "them"? Do you think he's being honest? Why or why not?
2. Do you agree that "we live in a world of them"? Do you think as many people fall into the "them" category as Leo thinks? Why or why not?
3. Why do you think Leo cares so much about what "everybody" thinks? How would you behave similarly/differently in his position?

2. I deffinatly agree that we live in a world of "them." In my oppinion, I think that "them" is the main reason that people won't let loose and be themselves. Everyone is scared what people will think or say. It is especially hard for kids and teens, like in schools.
ReplyDeleteI abosulutly think we live in a world of them. Without them we might have less wars, less fights, and everyone would be free to be themselves and express themselves in their own way. Without them trying to judge us all the time, the world might be a better place.
ReplyDelete2. We do live in the world of "them". If "they" are doing something, we would probably want to do the same thing to "fit in". Their are a lot of people who go along with what everyone else is doing or wearing and such. They go along with it because, as said earlier, They want to fit in with the crowd.
ReplyDeletePs. Happy April Fools Day!!!
1. I think Leo is wrong for saying "them" all the time, I think he is using "them" as a cover for how he really feels. He just doesn't want to have Stargirl mad at him.
ReplyDelete3. I think Leo wants to fit in because he is the new guy and he is dating stargirl. I think he just wants to go with the crowd.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that Leo should be putting it on "them". I think that he should just tell Stargirl the truth about people not liking her and how he doesn't want people not liking him just because he likes her.

ReplyDeleteI do believe he is right when he says we live in a world of them, because everyone must follow the norm or else they are a freak.
ReplyDeleteI agree with CFTIG3RZ. I think that he is just using them as a cover for what he really thinks to avoid upsetting stargirl too much and risk breaking up with her.
ReplyDeleteNo he is not being honest because he is the one who wants her to change so he doesn't look stupid dating a weirdo. Leo should tell her the truth that he wants her to change for him not for "them".
ReplyDelete3. I think he cares because he wants to be normal and he wants people to talk to him, and he doesnt want to be left out. I would've felt the same way as Leo did, because fitting in is nice.
ReplyDeleteI think he actually wants her to just be different so everyone else wont ignore him too.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is nice to fit in, because it's nice for people to appreciate you. I have to think, though, that Susan is unhappier than Stargirl ever was, because I don't think she probably likes herself that much right now either. At least before, when people didn't like her, she was happy with herself. That's the hard thing about changing yourself for others and hoping that they'll like you for it.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think about Leo's quick acceptance of "Susan"? I'm kind of bothered by it... I think he should be a little more unsure about whether he did the right thing.
#3 I think that leo cares a lot about what people think because his highschool has always been about conformity and since stargirl was completely her own person people weren't used to that. and his friends and his show have always been important to him. like he said, he cant have both. so in a way i don't really blame him for trying to make things work out. But if it was me I wouldn't try to change her. I like people being who they are.
ReplyDelete#1. I think that Leo misses fitting in and just wishes that Stargirl would be normal. Ever since he started hanging out with her, he has been shunned. I think he doesn't want Stargirl to be different. Everyone else wants her to change, including Leo.
ReplyDeleteI think that Leo does what he does because he himself feels as if he doesn't fit in. So going out with Stargirl even though he really likes her is hurting what he is trying to accomplish which is to be "normal." I wouldn't of even became friends with Stargirl if my whole goal was to become "normal."
ReplyDeleteanswer was to Q 3
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great comments, everyone!
ReplyDeleteI think it was fine the way leo was trying to make her change i think it would help her at school she would gain more friends and wouldnt be the butt of everyones jokes anymore and I think it would help leo out because people would stop the shunning on him.
